Hope rekindled
Have you have ever been in that situation where you or a relation or friend required urgent organ transplant or blood donation, and an anonymous donor or someone known to you came through just in the nick of time? It is hope rekindled and literally a second chance at life.
Selfless giving
One of the most exhilarating feelings in the world surely is not that we have more than we know what to do with. It is that we are able to give, when we have no expectations of receiving in return. Today is World Donor Day. It is a commemoration of the numerous people who have selflessly chosen to make a difference by donating their blood or organs to save other people's lives. It is also a reminder that we too could become one of these unsung heroes.
You too can donate
Perhaps you have heard how someone donated a kidney to their spouse or sister, and thought to yourself "how noble", or wondered if you could ever give that way. The answer is "Yes, you can!" You can help by simply signing up to become a blood donor with your local blood bank. You can safely do this multiple times in your lifetime. Living donors could also donate organs such as the kidney or liver.
Furthermore, you can give life, even after you are gone, by agreeing to donate your organs to people who need them after your death. For instance, do you know that by giving your eyes, you can give sight back to two people with corneal blindness? This is the true essence of selfless giving.
Last words
Therefore, as we go through life, let us reflect on this fact. “At the end it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” (Denzel Washington)
"Learn to light a candle in the darkest moments of someone's life. Be the light that helps others see..." (Roy T. Bennet).
